Decline in Manufacturing Quality

I recently picked up a nano puff in forge gray and loved it. I was impressed by several features that others here have mentioned. It’s light weight, incredibly warm (especially if moving), and fits great. However, I took the nano puff back to REÍ because I loose stitching thread that would have ruined one of the front facing brick panels. I only had the jacket for a couple of weeks so I exchanged it for the same model and color. The second jacket also has some issues with what I can only describe as stitching loops sticking out. I’m concerned these loops are going to get caught on something and damage the stitching. I’ve also noticed needle holes on the inside panels that is uncharacteristic of Patagonia gear. I think somethings up with the quality on this model and I shouldn’t be disappointed considering the price of this jacket. I’ve never noticed these lapses in quality in my other Patagonia gear that includes shoes, backpacks, and other jackets. Make sure inspect yours carefully if you get one.

Poor Quality

I have had this jacket for a little over a year now. As mentioned by other reviewers the stitching is falling apart in multiple areas. Last night the zipper broke as well. I wear this hoodie quite regularly to work and class and love they style, fit, and warmth it provides here in Colorado. I am very disappointed with the quality though. There are multiple places the stitching has come loose and there are tiny holes starting on my shoulders, I assuming from wear and tear from wearing a backpack to school and work? Overall the first few months in it were great but even getting it on sale it is not worth it to have it falling apart after a year.

Not durable

couple months into usage, and the left cuff started to separate. the right arm also got a rip. Not durable at all, disappointed, not worth the price. Expected better from Patagonia. Hood is nice though.

Light, warm, durable, worth the money

I've had my nano puff in temps down to the teens and it's surprisingly warm even when it's that cold, of course combined with base and mid layers but it's a great all around option even when temps aren't that cold, some how it has great temp regulation characteristics. Very versatile and durable. It seems expensive on the surface but when the jackets lasts years instead of only a season or two it's worth spending the money. Plus Patagonia has a great repair and recycling program for their clothing, not that I've needed to send it in for repairs after 4 years of heavy use. I've been using Patagonia products since the 90's and they never disappoint.

Arrived used and with a hole in the pocket

I have the hoodless down sweater from Patagonia which is great. However, I still wanted a synthetic jacket – something a little lighter, less puffy, and with a hood. The nano puff should have been a good choice. I ordered online and the jacket arrived unwrapped and used looking . The tag was disheveled, the drawcord was pulled taut, and it just didn’t feel like I was holding a brand new jacket. The worst was that there was a sizable hole in the chest pocket/stuff sack. It’s one thing if the jacket ripped from my own wear and tear, but a new jacket (regardless of the quality) should look pristine out of the box. Not sure if I’m more annoyed at REI for sending me a damaged product, or at Patagonia for making something so fragile. I'm still a Patagonia/REI fan, but I will be returning ASAP. Come on.

Sketchy Stitching on a Great Garment

Anyone who's considered this iconic jacket and read any reviews should already know that the stitching on the down squares of this jacket is notorious for pulls, snags and failures. It's been that way for years. If you are careful with your clothes, this should not present a problem for you; but if you're a dirtbag, bushwhacker or cowboy, be prepared for some dings and snags. They add "character" I guess; especially with some duct tape patches thrown in for good measure and optics. I personally went for the Down Sweater option, because of the thread pull issue here. I dinged it one star for this problem and a 2nd star for Patagonia's stubborn failure to solve that problem for years.

Inferior stitching creates feeling of cheapness

I decided to spring for a new Nano Puff upon realizing I basically wear my existing Nano Puff (purchased in late 2016 directly at Patagonia store in NYC) every day (bike commuting, bar hopping, hiking, fly fishing when I'm lucky, etc.), and it quickly starts to smell - so having two made sense. I'm a trim guy but not a little guy, wide shoulders about 6'2'' so I take XL always. But when I took off my existing Nano Puff and put on the new Puff , something felt off... One, as others have alluded to, the stitching on this batch just feels inferior, in the same way using single ply versus a double ply toilet paper will leave you feeling like you could still use a few more wipes. Upon further inspection, it's pretty clear the stitching on the chest uses only one thread, rather than two on the 2016 version. The stitching pattern in the 2016 model also has a general two-thread diagonal direction, whereas the new one is just straight. Overall, the feel is less regulated and looser, like a hot plastic bag kind of hovering around your chest. Second, the fit generally seems bigger in the gut area, and the arms run to my knuckles, compared to my wrist-watch in the 2016 model. Again, the experience no longer feels tailored. You can feel this thing on you, whereas before it was like second epidermis. Kind of feels like this jumped the shark into a more mass market brunch piece, rather than a technical all-purpose core layer, and so in scaling up production, quality was abandoned. Last, I run hot, but my original Nano Puff kind of always dialed my internal temp to this perfect level of comfort. This jacket feels hotter overall indoors, and wind moves it around more than the old one. Idk man, I'm bummed because I love my original Nano Puff. Probably will end up giving the new one to my dad, whose a bigger guy and will enjoy the extra room.

My favorite jacket

This thing is perfect and worth every dollar. It’s incredibly versatile and fits me perfectly. (Size M) I’m 5’11” 180 lbs. Its warm enough to wear when it’s 30 degrees and small enough to wear under other jackets when it’s cooler. The hood has great coverage, and I wear it under my motorcycle helmet down below freezing temps under my other gear. I wear it most days. I even wear it by itself like a shirt when it’s a little warmer. It’s the most versatile piece of clothing I own. It packs down small, it’s lightweight, and warm.

Buy Once, Cry Once, Wear Forever!

Basically the best "do anything" winter/fall/spring jacket you can buy. I live in Alaska and use stuff HARD. I have a first generation nano puff hoody that Patagonia repaired numerous times - and despite beating the heck out of it, I haven't gotten it even close to the "replace" stage of its lifecycle. It packs down into a super convenient, portable little square. This, a raincoat, and a R1 layer will handle just about anything my part of the world can throw at you. The Patagonia Ironclad Warranty lives up to its name. While this piece may seem expensive, part of the value is the fact that Patagonia will repair it for you basically until the end of time. Buy once, cry once, and wear forever!

Decent jacket but NOT for Cold, wintery weather!

Men's XL size is somewhat roomy esp. around the waist area. There's enough room to layer above a base layer and mid/heavy-weight fleece for warmth. According to Patagonia reps that I've contacted from its website, the Nano jackets are NOT designed for COLD, WINTER wear. It's meant for the spring/fall seasons. If you participate in Outer sports in cooler weather, the jacket is fine. But it's NOT warm enough to wear in Cold, Wintery weather as the winds will go through the jacket (based on the stitching design which lets in the wind) and you'll feel the cold. It's VERY Misleading that Patagonia does NOT Explicit state this for the Nano jackets!
